2025 amana colonies Bus Trip

Friday, May 30

When things just work, we keep doing them.  Once again we met at the park & ride in Mukwonago at 7 am.  Our Shipshewana trip bus driver, Gadi, is once again taking us on an adventure.  This time we are 51 ladies.

Blue Sky Quilt Shop

The first stop is this lovely shop in Le Claire, Iowa which is across the street from the Mississippi River.

Lunch at the Underground Railway Rest Stop

We picked up lunch from a Jersey Mike's located in a strip mall.  We got to watch Gadi maneuver a rather tight parking lot.  We had beautiful weather and ate at picnic tables at a rest stop along I80 in Wilton, IA.

The Woolen Needle

The next stop was the Woolen Needle in Williamsburg, IA.  This shop had everything, but specializes in wool applique.  The samples in the store were gorgeous and everything was available as a kit.  Williamsburg, IA is the classic town with old buildings on a square.

Hotel Millwright

The next stop is the Hotel Millwright in Amana, IA.

Heritage Design Quilting & Needlework

The last stop was a trip to Heritage Designs  which is a wonderful shop featuring fabric and hand sewing supplies.

saturday, May 31

Fern Hill Shop

A South Amana shop featuring antiques, gifts and quilt shop merchandise.   This also the home of Stephanie Brandenburg, an interesting fabric designer.

Amana Heritage Museum Film and Tour

After some free time for lunch and exploring, we headed to the Amana Heritage Museum for a film about the history of the area.  Then we got back on the bus and headed out with a guide to get a better understanding of the area.  We stopped at a general store run by the museum and a woodworking shop.

Dinner was on our own and one of the popular spots was Runnerberg Restaurant.

sunday, june 1

LIttle Red Hen

On Sunday we headed home.  The first stop was Muscatine, IA and this amazing shop located in a residential neighborhood.  We got to watch Gadi navigate narrow streets and back up the bus on a hill.  There was some mix up and we arrived before the shop owner was expecting us.  they opened special on Sunday just for us.  I'm sure we made it worth their time.

Sunshine Stitches

After lunch we stopped at Sunshine Stitches in Belvidere, IL.
